Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified individual to fill therole of Senior Cost Accountant. In this role, the qualified individual will perform or share a variety of Cost Accounting and Financial Reporting duties toensure that Sales, Cost of Sales, and Inventory are properly accountedfor. Working in a U.S. Government contracting environment, this rolerequires a solid understanding of Cost Pools and Overhead rates, as well as the Accounting rules for long term agreements and revenue recognition. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this individual will work to ensure the integrity of theCost data and structure within the company’s Deltek CostPoint system.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Weekly and monthly reporting of inventory, cost data, Sales, Booking & Backlog.
  • Assist with producing the disclosures and reports required of the company by the U.S. Government including, but not limited to: Cost Accounting Standards Board Disclosure Statement, Incurred Cost Submissions, Forward Pricing Rate proposals.
  • Coordinate and/or assist in the development of budgets for projects and expenses and be responsible for reporting of same.
  • Set up and maintain cost and inventory accounts, and report costs at the department, project and product level.
  • Execute cost and inventory transfers in the company's ERP system (Deltek Costpoint).
  • Assist the Program Management function to ensure that project costs and EAC’s (estimates at completion) are as accurate as possible.
  • Produce invoices, progress billings and cost vouchers as required.
  • Coordinate the development of annual budgets for direct and indirect costs, and produce periodic reports of actual costs and variances.
  • Ensure appropriate cost accounts and pools are maintained in the ERP system.
  • Perform various month-end Accounting close activities.
  • Participate in development of bids and proposals, and review of existing projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications (Education/Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of full-time, professional-level employment in accounting, auditing, financial reporting & analysis, or a closely related professional-level financial role, leading to the thorough understanding and practice of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • 3+ years in a Cost Accountant role.
  • Solid understanding of Cost Pools and Overhead rates.
  • 2+ years of experience with project costing systems (Deltek Costpoint ERP system a plus).
  • Ability to work with department Managers on development of department budgets and ongoing review of actuals costs and variances.
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced work environment to ensure quality work product is delivered on time.
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations in a clear, concise, logical manner, orally and in writing.

Not required, but preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Business or Public Administration or a closely related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certificate.
  • Experience in working with U.S. Government Contracting & Cost Accounting regulations including FAR, DFARS, CAS, etc.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a CAS-compliant environment working directly with U.S. Government contracts, maintenance of direct & indirect cost pools and the development of overhead rates and budgets.
  • Successful experience interacting directly with DCMA and/or DCAA.
