ROLE PURPOSE:
The Senior Manager of Payroll Finance fills the vital role of maintaining the financial integrity of NBCU by executing day-to-day operations that support the organization's maintenance of SOX and other regulatory financial requirements. Ultimately this role ensures the timely and accurate execution of accounting functions that enable proper GL reconciliation. The Senior Manager of Payroll Finance ensures consistent and effective processes of the cost accounting function to maintain appropriate charges to department which enables more accurate budgeting, planning, and strategic decision making.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Meet SLAs for GL account reconciliation
* Summarize current financial status by analyzing general ledger accounts; compiling and submitting financial statements
* Monitor the posting of the GL file to NBCU accounting from SAP and work with cost center team on resolving problems with the posting due to invalid cost centers and WBS elements
* Follow-up on issues related to GL accounting for bank reconciliation when payroll payments are cancelled or reversed or rejected in the banking system
* Reconcile zero net accounts used in controlling payroll deductions and the remittance of these deductions to the appropriate third party
* Work with Business Integration team on Wage/Deduction configuration
* Define Test Scripts for new Wage Types
* Payroll liability account reconciliations
* Establish processes and controls to meet SOX requirements and internal audit requirements for the GL reconciliation
* Respond to requests from internal audit, corporate controller and external auditor on questions relating to Payroll GL
* Make changes/corrections to costing structures that come through. Plan and develop systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the department
* Review payroll results and respond to questions from business unit controllers on postings to their departments
* Monitoring payroll expense on a monthly basis
* Work with Business Analyst on Wage/Deduction configuration that charge departments
* Work with timekeeper on charges to departments that come in from the business units on the time record
* Monitor department mapping between SAP and ADP to make sure they are in sync
* Define Test Scripts for new Wage Types
* Define requirements for Test Scripts for new Wage Types
* Analyze and document business processes and problems. Develop solutions to enhance efficiencies
* Coordinate and implement solutions from process analysis and general department projects
* Direct staff in the development, analysis, and preparation of reports
* Supervise staff in accordance with company policies and procedures
* Conduct interviews, hire new staff, and provide employee orientation
* Coach and provide career development advice to staff
* Establish employee goals and conduct employee performance reviews
* Responsible for staff scheduling to include: work assignments/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignment, back-up for absent employees, and shift rotations
* Assist staff to resolve complex or out of policy operation problems
* Coordinate with Human Resources for appropriate staffing levels
* Schedule and conduct department meetings
* Responsible to meet department productivity and quality goals
* Communicate with Senior Manager, Supervisors, and other Managers, Department operations
* Performs other duties as assigned by the Operational Assistant Controller
* Deliver accurate payroll financial reporting
* Ensure implementation of strong financial SOX controls
* Compliance with regulatory agencies
* Ensure proper posting to cost centers
* Ensure Timekeeper SAP & ADP cost centers are in sync between systems
* Manage SLAs on how quickly cost center issues are researched and corrected
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelors degree from accredited institution
* Minimum of 7+ years of experience managing payroll departments within large multi-state companies, including responsibility for and in-depth functional knowledge of payroll/payroll tax processing, internal/external audits, issue resolution, garnishments and research of payroll tax and wage/hour requirements
* Minimum of 5+ years of experience in GL reconciliation and accounting
* Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience required with demonstrated ability to develop and mentor staff at varying levels

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
* Comprehensive knowledge of Payroll principles, practices, and procedures and how payroll adjustments and corrections impact benefit reporting and reconciliation
* Demonstrable experience in changing work environments and the effects associated in the Payroll area
* Ability to work independently with multiple people at many levels and work as part of a team
* Excellent communication and organizational skills
* Commitment to customer service and ability to work in team-oriented environment
* Effective leadership skills
* Extensive understanding of NBCU accounting processes and procedures
* Knowledge of NBCU funding requirements and Financial controls
* Certified Payroll Professional designation preferred
