Employment Status



The hotel controller is responsible for supporting the chief financial officer, and/or the regional hotel controller in maintaining the hotel's financial records in compliance with management company standard operating procedures and professional accounting requirements, in addition to supporting the hotel general manager in hotel operations and related fiscal responsibilities. The hotel controller is a key member of the hotel's executive committee and is the local leader of the hotel in regard to finance and accounting.


Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Assure financial plans are consistent with hotel goals. Prepares reports which summarize and forecast hotel business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses and earnings based on past, present and expected operations.
2. Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by executing disciplines of internal controls and checks across all departments in accordance with management company standard operating procedures.
3. Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, payroll, inventory, fixed assets and general accounting.
4. Manage and issue timely monthly financial reporting for the executive committee and corporate office.
5. Directs preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.
6. Provides management with timely reviews of hotel's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
7. Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.
8. Supervise financial close activity and general ledger maintenance, including balance sheet reconciliations.
9. Cash management and treasury control enforcement for the hotel.
10. Operations and departmental support in regard to financial activity and purchasing controls.
11. Payroll processing and related controls.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
1. Plans, schedules and distributes incoming work to appropriate individuals.
2. Develops and maintains an effective organization through the selection, training, compensation, motivation and review of direct report staff.
3. Provides guidance and direction to accounting staff to assist them in their professional development.
