Senior Accountant

Administers and maintains one or a combination of accounting systems. May assist with the development of accounting procedures. Prepares journal entries, provides analysis for routine transactions and reconciles complex general ledger accounts. Under management direction, provides general assistance to the department. Depending upon work assignments, may perform any of the duties and responsibilities listed herein.

* Review and approve accounts payable invoice batches
* Determine and assign GL coding on various transactions
* Train and provide guidance to accounts payable and/or accounts receivable staff
* Maintain cash ledgers
* Initiate wire transfers and other banking transactions
* Perform complex account reconciliations including intercompany transactions
* Prepare and enter monthly recurring and non-recurring journal entries and billing
* Interpret contracts to initiate billing processes
* Coordinate administration of procurement contracts and issue corresponding purchase orders
* Assist with monthly financial close
* Prepare and file Sales/use tax, property tax
* Prepare and file 1099 returns
* Other duties or projects as may be assigned

This position works in a typical office environment. With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to sit and type at a computer terminal for up to 8 hours per day with appropriate breaks and perform tasks that require fine dexterity and repetitive motions using the arms, hands, wrists and fingers. * Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or business, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
* Minimum five years’ experience with accounting systems.
* Non-profit experience preferred.
* Experience analyzing issues, defining problems, processing transactions in a timely and consistent manner, and adhering to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
* Strong Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) skills.
* The ability to work independently and with little guidance from management on routine tasks.
* Should be flexible and able to switch quickly from one project to another when dictated by business need.
* A willingness to put forth additional effort and work extra hours, when critical projects arise, is important.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to select appropriate means of communication in a given situation.
