1119 - Mail Service Worker ( Financial Operations Division)

- Position Description
- This position is in the Financial Operations Division of the Pima County Finance & Risk Management Department.
Salary Grade: 11
Collects, processes and distributes County mail and inter-departmental correspondence for the County complex and outlying facilities. This classification is distinguished from Mail Services Worker-Lead, which has lead responsibilities for the activities of County-wide mail services.
Preference given to current Pima County employees.
(Work assignments may vary depending on the department's needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.)
Picks up, sorts and distributes mail and inter-departmental communications for all County departments;
Uses postal scales and affixes correct postage;
Sorts, classifies, marks and bundles mail to conform with postal regulations;
Operates mail metering machines, hand trucks and pushcarts;
Lifts and moves heavy mail bags and packages;
Keeps daily records of mail costs and postage meter transactions;
Provides information regarding postal rates and general procedures to other departments;
May collect mail from the Post Office;
Performs general maintenance of postal machinery.

- Two (2) or more years of experience in mail services operations, including operation of postage metering equipment.
- Customer service experience, both in person and on the phone.
- Experience with all tasks of mail services processing including mail runs (walking and driving), sorting and packaging of mail for delivery.
- Experience with alphabetic and numeric filing.
- Experience with email and working knowledge of Excel.
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Risk Management's review and approval of the candidate's driving record.
Special Requirements: Ability to move and lift heavy materials.
