Job Description


Robert Half Finance is reviewing candidates for a renowned services company for an ambitious, determined Controller. This is a leadership role with responsibility over an accounting and clerical department. The Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions, handles the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluates accounting and internal control systems, and leads departmental staff. Based in the Phoenix, Arizona area, this opening for a Controller is a full-time position.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

- Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

- Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required

- Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

- Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

- Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

- Perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

- Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

- Ensure client satisfaction by reviewing deliverables of self and team

- Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

- Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation


- Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued

- Commitment and abilities to meet critical business deadlines

- Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail

- Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment

- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

- Financial statement preparation experience desired

- CPA/MBA preferred

- Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities

- Observant, accurate and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment

- Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

- Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

- Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
