Position Summary

UNMTemps, the University of New Mexico's internal temporary staffing department, seeks a temporary Fiscal Services Tech to join the UNM's Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE), along with the Center for Water & the Environment (CWE).

Both the department and center are highly intensive research programs, making this is an exceptional opportunity to learn vital skills in not only higher education accounting, but also the opportunity to gain experience in working with state and federal agencies and their research management, and procurement process. The successful candidate will have a background in accounting, including a combination of higher education accounting courses and work experience.

This is a potential temp-to-regular opportunity, subject to the selected candidate’s performance throughout the temporary assignment, in addition to the business needs of the hiring department.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Scanning all purchasing and reimbursement requests, and entering all CCEE & CWE purchasing and reimbursement requests into CCEE tracking system

  • Assisting in ordering supplies and equipment for the department, its centers and research projects

  • Managing the CCEE & CWE equipment inventory

  • Processing all money list related transactions

  • Creating and following up on all invoices for department and center conference registrations (the department holds two major conferences a year)

  • Processing reimbursements in Chrome River

  • Reconciling reimbursement transactions to department and center accounts

  • Preparing all journal entries for the CWE

  • Answering department phones, sorting mail, and greeting visitors to the department and center.

  • Required to be one of two department payroll Time Keepers.

  • Required to be a UNM PCard holder

Assignment Details:

Days & Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.

Anticipated Start Date: 02/25/2019

Projected End Date: 02/24/2020

Parking Arrangements: Responsibility of the selected employee

UNMTemps provides staffing solutions to UNM departments requesting temporary employees as positions become available due to a vacancy, when regular employees are absent, for peak work periods, and for special events. As such, UNMTemps assignments/positions may end with little or no advance notice.

  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of 9 credit hours of university level accounting

  • Experience in Banner Finance

  • Experience in Chrome River expense processing

  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing, and reconciling accounts, maintaining accounting records

  • Knowledge of University accounting policies and procedures involving procurement, and travel

  • Familiarity with UNM accounts payable/purchasing policies and procedures

  • Proficiency in various computer software application, including:

    • Word processing software (MS word or comparable)

    • Database software (MS Access or comparable)

    • Spreadsheet software (MS Excel or comparable)
